Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an AI-focused engineer in Colorado to own end-to-end capabilities—from discovery to production and operation. You will lead requirements, define technical approaches, and advocate for the right AI patterns, balancing accuracy, cost, and latency while ensuring governance and measurable outcomes.

You will work across client delivery, internal product development, and rapid proofs of concept, mentoring others and staying current with AI models and tooling.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and shipping production software.
• At least 1 year hands-on experience building apps that integrate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, tool use, and agent patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to own a capability end-to-end from ambiguous requirement to production.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality with metrics, tests, and evidence-driven deployment decisions.
• Strong programming ability in Python, TypeScript, or SQL across the full application, not just the AI layer.
• Proven ability to lead requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders and translate them into technical design.
• Willingness to teach and mentor others; ability to work independently in ambiguous settings.
• U.S. Citizenship is required for client engagements.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements conversations with business and technical stakeholders, covering workflow and success criteria.
• Define the technical approach and defend it; select AI patterns appropriate to the problem.
• Recommend against AI when simpler solutions exist; consider rules, processes, and interfaces.
• Define measurable success criteria before building (accuracy, human review thresholds, acceptance conditions).
• Build the complete capability end-to-end (prompts, retrieval design, APIs, data handling, UI).
• Develop evaluation sets from real data and measure against them; iterate based on results.
• Make architecture decisions balancing quality, cost, latency, security, and authorization.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and drift monitoring; ensure supportability.
• Mentor engineers new to AI through code reviews and guidance.
• Maintain knowledge of models and tooling to reuse patterns.
