Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer to own AI-enabled capabilities end to end, from discovery to production and operation. You will balance business problems with technical approaches, choosing patterns like extraction, classification, or summarization, and knowing when to avoid AI in favor of simpler solutions.

This role requires strong communication and leadership in a fast-paced client environment. You will mentor others, stay current with AI developments, and help shape client deliverables

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and shipping production software.
• At least 1 year building apps with LLMs (prompt engineering, retrieval, etc.).
• Ability to own a capability end-to-end from ambiguous reqs to production.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality with metrics and test sets.
• Strong coding in Python/TypeScript/SQL across full app, not just AI.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements conversations with stakeholders about workflow and success criteria.
• Define technical approach and select AI pattern (extraction, summarization, etc.).
• Advise against AI when simpler solutions suffice (rules, processes, interfaces).
• Define measurable success criteria before building.
• Build complete capability including prompts, retrieval, APIs, UI and data handling.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and cost monitoring.
• Mentor engineers new to AI through code reviews.
• Maintain knowledge of models and reusable patterns.
