Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an AI/ML Engineer who can translate business problems into technical AI solutions. You will own capabilities end to end, from discovery through deployment and post-release operation, across client delivery and internal product work.

You will lead requirements discussions, defend your technical approach, and determine when AI is the right tool, while ensuring measurable success and responsible governance.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and shipping production software.
• 1 year hands-on experience building applications that integrate large language models.
• Demonstrated ability to own a capability end to end.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality with metrics and evidence-based decisions.
• Strong programming ability in Python/TypeScript/SQL across full application.
• Ability to translate stakeholder input into technical approach.
• Willingness to teach and mentor others.
• US Citizenship required for client engagements.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements conversations with business and technical stakeholders.
• Define the technical approach and defend it; select the appropriate AI pattern.
• Recommend against AI when simpler solutions exist; consider rules, process changes, or interfaces.
• Define measurable success criteria before building (accuracy targets, human review thresholds).
• Build the complete capability end-to-end (prompts, retrieval, APIs, UI, error handling).
• Build evaluation sets from real data and measure results.
• Make architecture decisions considering quality, cost, latency, security, and authorization.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and drift monitoring.
• Help clients understand possibilities and shape next phases of work.
• Mentor engineers new to AI through code reviews and guidance.
