Job summary

Tenet Healthcare's DMC University Laboratories in Detroit seeks a Senior Lab Assistant in Anatomic Pathology. Under supervision, you will perform pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical tasks, assist training, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safety protocols.

You will maintain records, prepare specimens, label and accession, and collaborate with Pathologists to support accurate test processing. The role is part-time, daytime hours in an on-site laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in specimen processing and/or a pathology laboratory environment.
• Six months of experience in Anatomic Pathology preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Leadership experience preferred.
• Customer service experience in a service environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in training in Anatomic Pathology and specimen processing policies to improve staff competency.
• Assist with problem solving and troubleshooting of routine or moderately complex processing and Anatomic Pathology issues.
• Enforce departmental safety policies and OSHA guidelines with PPE usage.
• Prioritize incoming specimens and ensure stats are processed promptly per guidelines.
• Set up and maintain designated work areas and equipment; ensure equipment is operational.
• Collaborate with Pathologists; label specimens, load imagers and stainers as required.
• Generate labels and attach to specimens per test requirements.
• Verify patient identification and assign accession numbers for processing.
