Job summary

DMC University Laboratories, Inc. in Detroit, MI is seeking a Lab Assistant for Core Lab operations. You will perform pre-analytical and post-analytical tasks under supervision, process specimens, and interact with patients and health care professionals as part of a trusted laboratory team.

The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to procedures as you support high reliability culture and comprehensive patient care within Tenet Healthcare’s network.

Qualifications

• Six months of medical training or certification in a health-care environment or related science field.
• Basic studies in medical terminology or related health science field preferred.
• Customer service experience in a service environment preferred.
• Phlebotomy Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize incoming specimens and process according to department safety and OSHA guidelines.
• May draw blood samples from patients based on physicians order and in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Generates and attaches labels to specimens; may perform specimen processing and aliquoting.
• Ensure specimen integrity by verifying patient identification and appropriate sample submission.
• Enter and review laboratory data in the computer system with accuracy.
• Communicate with patients and healthcare professionals to explain procedures or answer routine questions.
• Maintain a neat and clean work area; stock supplies and inventories as necessary.
• May perform transportation duties and order tests in the system.
• Conduct routine equipment inspection, maintenance and quality control checks.
• Prepare patients for tests or administer tolerance tests as assigned.
• Perform clerical duties and communicate training and development needs.
