Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design and deliver agentic AI capabilities for the NBA platform.

You will be a hands-on contributor building production AI systems each sprint while also leading a small team of engineers and contractors focused on AI-powered workflows and intelligent analysis in user-facing experiences. You will own the integration of large language models, architect multi-step pipelines, and partner with frontend teams to push AI-driven insights to operators.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering with 1-2 years focused on LLM integration, agentic AI, or AI product engineering.
• Hands-on experience building production agentic systems: multi-step pipelines, tool orchestration, structured output handling, and multi-turn conversations.
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation and vector search in production.
• Strong Python engineering skills; capable of shipping production-grade AI systems.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents) into real applications.
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod through delivery and manage contractor resources.
• Good judgment on AI deployment in regulated, member-facing contexts.
• Clear communicator able to explain architecture to engineers and product owners.
• Deep fluency with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, or similar).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own AI agent workflows that surface analysis, recommendations, and automation across the NBA platform.
• Write and ship production code alongside your team; this is a hands-on role.
• Architect multi-step agent pipelines integrating with data layer, decisioning outputs, and activation channels.
• Own integration of LLMs (Claude, GPT, or equivalents) including prompt engineering and context management.
• Partner with frontend/product teams to bring AI insights into operator-facing surfaces.
• Develop evaluation frameworks to measure AI output quality and ensure reliability and safety in healthcare context.
• Manage AI engineering contractors within your pod; set expectations and review work.
• Develop AI productivity tooling and best practices across the engineering org.
