Job summary

Humana Inc is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of agentic AI capabilities for the NBA platform. This hands-on role requires shipping production AI systems while leading a small team of engineers and contractors.

You will design agent workflows, integrate LLMs, and collaborate with frontend/product teams to bring AI-driven insights into operator-facing surfaces. Strong Python skills and healthcare domain judgment are essential.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering experience with at least 1-2 years focused on LLM integration, agentic AI, or AI product engineering.
• Hands-on experience building production agentic systems - multi-step pipelines, tool orchestration, structured output handling, and multi-turn conversation management
• Experience with RAG patterns and vector search - built retrieval-augmented systems in production
• Strong Python engineering skills; production-grade AI systems, not just prototypes
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents) into real applications
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod through delivery and manage contractor resources
• Strong judgment on when AI is the right tool in regulated, member-facing contexts
• Clear communicator - explain agentic architecture to engineers and product owners
• Deep fluency with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Agentic AI delivery - design, build, and own AI agent workflows across interfaces and tooling
• Hands-on development - write and ship production code alongside your team
• AI workflow design - architect multi-step pipelines with data, decisioning, and activation channels
• LLM integration - own integration of Claude, GPT, or equivalents
• User-facing AI experiences - partner with frontend/product teams for AI-driven insights
• Evaluation and reliability - build frameworks to measure AI output quality, ensure reliability and safety
• Contractor management - manage AI engineering contractors within your pod
• AI productivity tooling - model best practices for AI-assisted development
