Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of agentic AI capabilities for the NBA platform. This hands-on role requires you to contribute production AI systems while leading a small team of engineers and contractors.

You will design multi-step AI workflows, integrate LLMs, and collaborate with product and frontend teams to deliver AI-powered experiences in operator-facing surfaces, with emphasis on reliability and governance in healthcare.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering with 1–2 years on LLM integration or AI product engineering.
• Hands-on experience building production agentic systems with multi-step pipelines and tool orchestration.
• Experience with retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and vector search in production.
• Strong Python engineering skills for production AI systems, not just prototypes.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents).
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod and manage contractors.

Responsibilities

• Own design and delivery of agentic AI capabilities across the NBA platform.
• Hands-on coding alongside the team; not a purely supervisory role.
• Design multi-step AI workflows connected to data and decisioning outputs.
• Integrate LLMs into platform workflows, including prompt engineering and context handling.
• Collaborate with frontend/product teams to bring AI insights to operator surfaces.
• Build evaluation frameworks for AI output quality, ensuring reliability and safety.
