Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of the NBA platform's agentic AI capabilities. This is a hands-on engineering role, with you writing production code and leading a small team of engineers and contractors.

You will architect multi-step AI workflows, integrate LLMs, and surface AI-driven analysis in operator-facing interfaces, while ensuring reliability and regulatory alignment in healthcare.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering experience with at least 1-2 years focused on LLM integration, agentic AI, or AI product engineering
• Hands-on experience building production agentic systems - multi-step pipelines, tool orchestration, structured output handling, and multi-turn conversation management
• Experience with retrieval augmented generation patterns and vector search in production
• Strong Python engineering skills; capable of shipping production-grade AI systems
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents) into real applications
• Proven ability to lead a small team or pod through delivery and manage contractor resources
• Strong judgment on when AI is the right tool in a regulated, member-facing context
• Clear communicator for engineers and product owners
• Fluency with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of agentic AI workflows across UI and internal tooling
• Hands-on development—write and ship production code
• Architect multi-step AI pipelines integrating with data, decisioning, and activation channels
• Integrate LLMs (Claude, GPT, or equivalents) into workflows including prompts and context management
• Deliver user-facing AI experiences in Command and Control UI and operator surfaces
• Build evaluation frameworks to measure AI output quality and ensure reliability and safety in healthcare
• Manage AI engineering contractors within your pod
• Model best practices for AI-assisted development across the organization
