Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer II for Huntsville, AL, with travel to other sites, to design, develop, construct and activate facility mechanical systems supporting launch and manufacturing operations. You will lead cross‑functional teams, manage schedules and budgets, and ensure safety and mission assurance across sites.

Qualifications

• BS in mechanical engineering required.
• Minimum 5 years in complex facility design, operations and maintenance.
• Experience leading small- to medium-sized teams integrating subsystems.
• Recent facility development or management for mission critical operations.
• Experience with mechanical system design, sizing and specification.
• Familiar with HVAC facility monitoring systems.
• Experience in sub-contract management including RFPs, specs and SOW.
• Strong project management, budgeting and team leadership skills.
• Experience planning, scheduling and cost estimation.
• Safety mindset with hands-on hazardous operation experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical systems requirements, performing flow down and verification.
• Manage design, analysis and development of launch support facilities.
• Support mechanical systems configuration development and trade studies.
• Oversee launch pad mechanical system construction and activation, procuring components and managing vendors/subcontractors.
• Create mechanical systems drawings, specifications and one-line diagrams.
• Prepare and review load calculations for HVAC and related systems.
• Plan and conduct mechanical systems facility shakedown and activation tests and review data.
• Communicate and apply mission assurance principles across the organization.
• Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and status.
• Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers.
• Identify opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings.
• Experience developing preventive maintenance plans and procedures.
• Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication processes and quality control.
