Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Assistant in Illinois with a 20-hour work week. The role runs a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

with rotating weekends and holidays, based at IL ACL Laboratories - IL Central Lab: Microbiology. Responsibilities include proper specimen labeling, limited testing under CLIA guidelines, data entry of results, notification of abnormal results, and assisting with inventory and reports.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills.
• Basic computer skills including software applications.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and multitask.

Responsibilities

• Label and verify specimens for testing; resolve ID/requisition issues.
• Perform limited testing under CLIA guidelines per procedures.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; run quality control checks.
• Enter lab results and verify test requests in the system.
• Notify providers of stat or abnormal results per policy.
• Obtain billing/insurance info and verify diagnosis codes.
• Answer calls; assist with inventory and supplies.
• Handle specimens and storage; prepare for transport.
• Review reports and distribute them; file orders/reports.
• Train new staff and act as a resource.
