Job summary

Advocate Health in Illinois is seeking a Histotechnician to join the 60348 IL ACL Laboratories - IL Central Lab: Histology team. This full-time day-shift role runs Tuesday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a 40-hour workweek and a competitive pay range.

You will accession specimens, embed tissues, perform stains and immunohistochemistry, and support pathologists. An ASCP BOC Histotechnician certification and post-secondary biology training are required; no experience is needed.

Qualifications

• Histotechnician (HT) certification or eligibility with ASCP BOC.
• Post-secondary training in Biology or related field beyond high school.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Accession specimens, label correctly, and prepare for testing.
• Embed tissue into paraffin blocks and manage tissue filing system.
• Process tissue samples for preservation and infiltration with paraffin.
• Perform routine and special stains, immunohistochemistry, cover slipping, and slide distribution.
• Manage daily workflow for recuts, special stains, controls, and send-outs per protocols.
• Conduct and document quality control and take corrective action under supervision.
• Maintain and troubleshoot instruments and equipment; ensure safety standards.
• Assist pathologists during frozen section procedures and support team members.
