Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technologist for the IL Central Lab: Microbiology, with 20 hours per week and 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.) including rotating weekends/holidays.

The role involves performing and evaluating laboratory tests, ensuring quality control, maintaining instruments, and training staff. Requires MT/MLS/AMT-eligible within 1 year and a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level education in clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
• Licensure or eligibility by ASCP/AMT options within 1 year.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests per established protocols and adjusts workflows to complete work on time.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance and reports findings per policy.
• Maintains and calibrates instruments, detects malfunctions and implements corrective actions.
• Performs quality control and quality assurance activities and initiates corrective actions as needed.
• Collects and handles specimens according to protocol for various age groups.
