Job summary

South Shore Health is seeking an Executive Director of Laboratory Services to provide strategic, operational, financial, and regulatory leadership for all laboratory services across the system. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered operations and oversees phlebotomy, pathology partnerships, and workforce development with strong compliance to CLIA, CAP, and Joint Commission standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in clinical laboratory operations, preferably CAP-accredited.
• Three (3) years in administrative management role preferred.
• MT or MLS (ASCP) required. Medical Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist license required at hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily laboratory operations across core lab, microbiology, blood bank, pathology, histology/cytology, and point-of-care testing.
• Leads strategic planning and aligns laboratory resources with system goals.
• Ensures compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other regulators; leads accreditation readiness.
• Manages budgets, cost-per-test performance, and reimbursement alignment.
• Recruits, develops, and retains laboratory leadership and staff; fosters accountability and continuous improvement.
• Partners with medical directors and executive leadership on key initiatives and external collaborations.
