Job summary

Johnson Controls seeks an Associate Director of Labor & Employment to join our Global Law & Policy Team. You will provide proactive legal guidance on employee relations, hiring, and compliance across the Americas.

You will partner with HR, manage investigations, and lead senior-level litigation, policy development, and strategic advice on reorganizations while supporting international assignments and global employment agreements. Remote-friendly, hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• JD Degree; must be a member in good standing of a U.S. state bar.
• Minimum 5 years of labor and employment experience in law firms or in-house.
• Experience litigating single plaintiff and class actions, including first-chair.
• Independent client counseling experience on L&E issues including leaves and wage-and-hour.
• Experience with traditional labor, including bargaining negotiations and arbitrations.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to drive process changes and change management in legal services.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to collaborate in a matrixed organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, business-savvy legal advice on labor and employment matters.
• Develop and implement US and global employment policies with HR.
• Support compliance and investigations; manage sensitive investigations.
• First-chair responses to EEOC, NLRB, DOL charges and audits.
• Manage single plaintiff and class action employment litigation strategy.
• Provide strategic advice regarding reorganizations to mitigate risk.
• Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements.
• Prepare communications for HR and business leaders on labor topics.
• Provide counsel on global mergers and acquisitions and international assignments.
