Job summary

University of Utah Health seeks a skilled Surgical Technician to support Labor & Delivery and OB Emergency Services. You will assist with clinical tasks, prepare patients, and support OR procedures as first assist under licensed staff.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, instrument management, patient transport, and postpartum care duties. Strong teamwork, communication, and the ability to stay calm in high-pressure environments are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of in-house surgical technician training within six weeks of hire.
• Demonstrated phlebotomy skills.
• Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in clinic's specialty skills within six weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures per clinic procedures.
• Reports observed patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff.
• Performs CLIA Waved Lab tests as identified by department and reports results.
• Performs suture removal, catheterization, and injections (IM, Subq, intradermal).
• Acts as chaperone for health care providers during examinations and assists with procedures.
• Monitors and cleans examination rooms, stock levels and equipment; restocks supplies.
• Answers telephones and schedules appointments, procedures and tests under supervision.
• Assists in postpartum hemorrhage situations and prepares OR for emergency hysterectomy.
