Job summary

Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking a part-time food service aide to support kitchen operations, dishwashing, and meal setup in a safe, clean environment.

Under supervision, you will follow routine procedures, maintain sanitation, and assist with inventory and general duties as needed. The role is on-site with a starting hourly pay ladder and opportunities to grow within the agency's services.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 0–1 years of experience in food service or custodial work.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to learn and retain processes through instruction and apply them independently.
  • Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

Job description

Performs basic food service tasks such as dishwashing, cleaning, and assisting with meal setup. Work under close supervision and follow routine procedures to support kitchen operations and ensure a clean, safe, and functional food service environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications— Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) preferred
  • 0–1 years of experience in food service or custodial work
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to learn and retain processes through instruction and apply them independently
  • OR?an equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that demonstrates the capacity to perform the essential functions of the position, as permitted by applicable regulatory standards.
  • Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with agency policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in institutional or healthcare food service settings
  • Familiarity with dietary restrictions and safe food handling procedures
  • ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification

  • Knowledge of basic cleaning and dishwashing procedures
  • Skill in following routine procedures and maintaining cleanliness
  • Skill in time management and task prioritization
  • Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff and supervisors
  • Ability to identify potential problems or detect when something may be likely to go wrong
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing needs
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not supervise or function in a lead worker capacity.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role, generally performs work under the following conditions:

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. While lifting demands may vary, employees in this category must demonstrate consistent mobility and physical readiness to engage in field-based work. This includes operating a motor vehicle, walking extended distances, and accessing locations that may require climbing stairs or traversing uneven terrain.
  • Normal concentration and visual attention required.
  • Extreme working conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (including but not limited to operating heavy equipment, elevated work platforms, and electrical hazards, use of chemical products that can have detrimental environm
  • Staff may occasionally engage in behavior intervention strategies, such as verbal de-escalation or redirection, to support client safety and therapeutic goals.
