Job summary

Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking an RN to provide nursing care in the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), a 16-bed, 24/7 residential program for adults in crisis. You will administer medications, perform nursing assessments, and coordinate treatment plans with a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires an Associate degree in nursing, RN license in Virginia, and CPR/CPI certifications. Preference given to experience in psychiatric or detox settings; driving may be required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in nursing.
  • 1–3 years of experience in behavioral health or medical nursing.
  • RN license from the Virginia Board of Nursing (required).
  • CPR and CPI certifications.
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that demonstrates the capacity to perform the essential functions of the position, as permitted by applicable regulatory standards.
  • Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with agency policy.

Join our dedicated team inthe Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), a 16-bed, 24/7 residential program providing behavioral health and substance use treatment for adults experiencing a mental health crisis. Our compassionate, recovery-focused approach offers crisis intervention, counseling, psychiatric and nursing support, medication management, detoxification services, and comprehensive discharge planning in a safe and supportive environment.

Deliver comprehensive nursing care to individuals with behavioral health and medical needs. Administer medications, conduct assessments, coordinate treatment plans, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Operate with clinical autonomy and ensure compliance with documentation and safety standards.

Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications—Education and Experience
  • Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in nursing
  • 1–3 years of experience in behavioral health or medical nursing
  • Registered Nurse license from the Virginia Board of Nursing (required)
  • CPR and CPI certifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in psychiatric, detox, or residential settings
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems
  • Training in trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing standards, medication protocols, and safety regulations
  • Skill in conducting assessments and managing treatment plans
  • Skill in communicating effectively with clients and interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to identify potential problems and expedite concerns appropriately
  • Ability to learn and retain processes through instruction and apply them independently
  • Ability to organize information and maintain accurate records
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not supervise or function in a lead worker capacity.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role, generally performs work under the following conditions:

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. While lifting demands may vary, employees in this category must demonstrate consistent mobility and physical readiness to engage in field-based work. This includes operating a motor vehicle, walking extended distances, and accessing locations that may require climbing stairs or traversing uneven terrain.
  • Close concentration and visual attention required.
  • Variable working conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (including but not limited to the risk from exposure to certain microorganisms, blood born pathogens, bacteria, sick or dangerous animals or people).
