Job summary

Sur La Table is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support class operations, assist chefs, and engage guests in a friendly, educational environment. You will help with mise en place, prep, and dish hygiene while ensuring a safe, welcoming experience for customers and instructors.

Flexibility is key: 12–16 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with on-site work in a fast-paced retail kitchen setting. Previous retail and food prep exposure is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment.
• 1 year retail sales experience preferred.
• 1 year food prep and/or kitchen operations experience preferred.
• Valid Food Handlers Certification.

Responsibilities

• Represent Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable, educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty.
• Stay current on products through available training and independently seeking resources.
• Lead a guest-obsessed culture in both the kitchen and retail sales floor to ensure exceptional customer experience.
• Assist chefs with class execution to drive repeat visits and positive feedback.
• Drive class revenue goals by ensuring high enrollment, positive reviews, and guest return rates.
• Meet or exceed monthly sales goals contributing to store revenue, measured by KPIs such as sales volume and average transaction value.
• Assist in setting up and breaking down classes, including mise en place, ingredients, and cleaning workstations.
• Clean and sanitize dishes and equipment promptly to maintain smooth kitchen operations.
• Restock, organize, and maintain kitchen supplies and tools to support store readiness.
• Ensure compliance with food safety standards and sanitation regulations.
• Handle tools, ingredients, and kitchen equipment safely to maintain a productive work environment.
• Maintain inventory, minimize shrink, and manage supply/culinary expenses.
• May handle liquor, wine, and beer per state and location regulations.
• Ensure store safety and cleanliness and address maintenance as needed.
• Adhere to wage/hour laws and accurately record time worked per policy.
• Model and ensure adherence to Sur La Table SOPs.
