Job summary

Dallas ISD is seeking an SPED Self-Contained Classroom Teacher Assistant to support instruction for grades K-5 on campus. You will help create instructional materials, maintain an orderly classroom, supervise students, and assist with mobility and personal care needs as required.

Responsibilities include assisting with behavior management, confidentiality, records, and coordinating with substitutes. A paraprofessional certificate and related training are preferred to meet district standards.

Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment
• Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification
• Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience preferred
• Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics
• Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
• Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills required to meet the goals of the position
• Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
• Demonstrated effective communication skills both in oral and written form
• Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities
• Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
• Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
• Assist with maintaining a neat, orderly classroom and preparing the room per student needs
• Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment
• Maintain confidentiality and assist with administrative records and required reports
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
• Assist students with physical disabilities including transfer to/from wheelchairs and positioning
• Assist with personal care needs including feeding, bathroom needs and hygiene
• Supervise students throughout the school day including lunchroom, bus, and playground
• Communicate student needs to the teacher and participate in staff meetings and events
