Job Description
Junior Varsity Softball Coach
North Middlesex Regional High School
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a qualified, motivated, and student-centered candidate for the position of Junior Varsity Softball Coach.
The JV Softball Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Varsity Coach and Athletic Department to provide a positive, competitive, and development-focused experience for student-athletes. The JV program is an important developmental component of the overall North Middlesex Softball Program, with an emphasis on preparing student-athletes for future varsity competition.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct organized, purposeful practices focused on individual skill development, team concepts, conditioning, situational play, and game preparation.
- Develop student-athletes with the goal of preparing them for future varsity competition.
- Implement the philosophy, terminology, systems, expectations, and developmental priorities established by the Head Varsity Coach.
- Work collaboratively with the varsity coaching staff regarding player development, roster movement, and overall program needs.
- Provide instruction and constructive feedback to student-athletes in individual and team settings.
- Teach offensive and defensive fundamentals, pitching, catching, baserunning, position-specific skills, and situational concepts appropriate for the JV level.
- Coach and supervise all assigned practices, games, and team activities.
- Establish clear expectations for effort, accountability, attendance, teamwork, sportsmanship, and behavior.
- Promote academic responsibility and positive representation of North Middlesex.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and contests, including locker rooms and athletic facilities.
- Communicate professionally with student-athletes, families, coaches, administrators, officials, and opposing programs.
- Follow and reinforce the Athletic Department's communication protocol.
- Prioritize student-athlete health and safety and follow all applicable emergency, concussion, weather, and return-to-play procedures.
- Assist with field preparation, equipment, uniforms, inventory, setup, breakdown, and other operational responsibilities.
- Attend required practices, contests, coaching staff meetings, Athletic Department meetings, and other program activities.
- Work collaboratively with coaches at all levels to promote consistency and development throughout the softball program.
- Follow all North Middlesex Regional School District, Athletic Department, Mid-Wach League, and MIAA policies, rules, and procedures.
- Perform additional program-related duties as assigned by the Head Varsity Coach or Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous softball playing and/or coaching experience.
- Knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and player development.
- Previous high school or competitive softball coaching experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively teach and develop student-athletes with varying levels of experience.
- Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within the overall softball coaching staff.
- Commitment to creating a positive, competitive, inclusive, and development-focused environment.
- Commitment to student-athlete academic achievement, character development, sportsmanship, and overall well-being.
- Willingness to support a program-first philosophy and the overall goals of North Middlesex Softball.
- Completion of all required district and MIAA coaching certifications prior to participation.
