Head Varsity Softball Coach
North Middlesex Regional High School
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a qualified, motivated, and student-centered candidate for the position of Head Varsity Softball Coach.
The Head Varsity Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, development, and culture of the North Middlesex Softball Program. The successful candidate will provide a positive and competitive experience for student-athletes while establishing a clear program philosophy centered on development, accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, and representing North Middlesex with pride.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction for the overall North Middlesex Softball Program.
- Plan and conduct organized, purposeful practices emphasizing individual skill development, team concepts, conditioning, situational play, and game preparation.
- Develop and implement offensive, defensive, pitching, catching, baserunning, and situational strategies appropriate for the program.
- Establish clear expectations and standards for student-athletes and coaching staff.
- Evaluate student-athletes and make appropriate decisions regarding team placement, positions, roles, and playing opportunities.
- Provide student-athletes with constructive instruction, feedback, and opportunities for continued development.
- Coordinate with assistant and sub-varsity coaches to establish consistent terminology, teaching progressions, expectations, and program philosophy.
- Develop student-athletes at all levels and establish a pathway for continued growth within the North Middlesex Softball Program.
- Promote effort, accountability, respect, teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship, and academic responsibility.
- Build positive relationships with student-athletes while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and accountability.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with student-athletes, families, coaches, administrators, officials, and opposing programs.
- Follow and reinforce the Athletic Department's communication protocol while encouraging appropriate student-athlete self-advocacy.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and contests, including locker rooms and athletic facilities.
- Prioritize student-athlete health and safety and follow all applicable emergency, concussion, weather, and return-to-play procedures.
- Manage program equipment, uniforms, inventory, field needs, and other program resources in coordination with the Athletic Department.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Athletics regarding scheduling, transportation, facilities, staffing, program needs, and other administrative responsibilities.
- Assist with maintaining an organized, safe, and appropriate softball facility and playing environment.
- Attend required Athletic Department, league, and program meetings.
- Follow all North Middlesex Regional School District, Athletic Department, Mid-Wach League, and MIAA policies, rules, and procedures.
- Represent North Middlesex Athletics professionally and model appropriate conduct and sportsmanship.
- Perform additional program-related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous softball coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
- Previous head coaching or significant varsity coaching experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and player development.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and develop student-athletes with varying levels of experience and ability.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to effectively manage and develop a coaching staff and overall program.
- Ability to establish clear expectations while building positive relationships with student-athletes.
- Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, competitive, and development-focused team culture.
- Commitment to student-athlete academic achievement, character development, sportsmanship, and overall well-being.
- Ability to communicate appropriately and professionally with families while supporting student-athlete self-advocacy.
- Willingness to collaborate with the Athletic Department and other North Middlesex athletic programs.
- Completion of all required district and MIAA coaching certifications prior to participation.
