Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Detroit, MI is seeking an Assistant Transmission Engineer to support the design and construction of 69-500 kV transmission lines. You will assist with concepts, drawings, and component design under supervision of a licensed PE, contributing to successful project delivery.

The role emphasizes CAD tools, data compilation, and client interactions, with growth toward preparing reports and presentations. A bachelor’s degree and internship experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited civil engineering degree required.
• FE exam required if applicable.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard civil/structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical, quantitative problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with CAD tools like AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Attention to detail and strong teamwork.
• Leadership potential and EIT preferred.
• GPA 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Campus or community involvement preferred.
• Authorized to work permanently in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transmission line design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for high voltage lines.
• Assists in designing transmission line components per project manager requirements.
• Applies basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering concepts.
• Assists with research and compiling project data and studies.
• Assists with updating drawings in CAD software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations.
• All other duties as assigned.
