Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Phoenix, AZ is seeking an Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer to assist senior engineers in designing and modifying high-voltage transmission line projects (69-500 kV). You will help with plans, profiles, load diagrams, and CAD updates across the design and construction process.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil/Structural Engineering degree (ABET preferred) and have internship experience. Strong communication, analytical, and team skills are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET preferred).
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in problem-solving environments.
• Proficient computer skills (MS Office).
• Basic CAD skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM, Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD).
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork and leadership potential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in transmission line design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for high voltage transmission lines (69-500 kV).
• Design transmission line components based on project needs (plans, profiles, load diagrams).
• Apply fundamental civil/structural engineering concepts per industry standards.
• Research and compile project data as required by project managers.
• Compile studies and reports for projects.
• Correct and update drawings using CAD software under senior engineer guidance.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for high voltage lines.
• Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Other duties as assigned and ensure compliance with policies and standards.
