Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer to assist project teams with designs for high‑voltage transmission lines (69‑500 kV) through design and construction phases.

You will help modify drawings, prepare plan/profile drawings, and support field inspections under supervision of a licensed PE. This entry‑level role emphasizes collaboration, attention to detail, and CAD tool proficiency (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, PLS‑CADD).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field; ABET accreditation preferred.
• Internship/related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; basic CAD tools listed above.

Responsibilities

• Assist in transmission line design from concept to design completion.
• Assist with modifying and reviewing production drawings for 69-500 kV transmission lines.
• Design transmission line components per project manager requirements (plan/profile drawings, structure loads, foundations).
• Apply basic civil/structural engineering concepts and procedures.
