Job summary

KDM Engineering in Chicago seeks a Senior Transmission Engineer to lead HV/EHV overhead transmission line projects, with hands-on design and technical leadership for utility clients.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with clients, perform routing, PLS-CADD modeling, structure spotting, foundation design, prepare bid packages, conduct QA/QC, and support construction during EDC. ABET degree, 5+ years, EIT with PE goal, and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from ABET-accredited program (Civil/Structural/Electrical).
• 5+ years of Transmission Line Engineer experience in consulting or utility.
• EIT certificate with ability to obtain PE soon.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, PLS-POLE, CAISSON, SAG10, ArcGIS.
• Strong verbal and written communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV/EHV overhead transmission line design: routing, structural analysis, hardware/conductor selection.
• Perform structural analysis, foundation design, and use specialized software.
• Set design parameters per NESC, IEEE, and client criteria; manage ROW constraints and clearances.
• Prepare specs, bid packages, and conduct technical bid evaluations.
• Seal deliverables: plan/profile drawings, BOMs, foundation drawings; QA/QC reviews.
• Provide SME guidance, client interfacing, and field support during construction (EDC).
• Mentor junior engineers and drive QA/QC across deliverables.
