Qualifications

• Requires completion of Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training or sponsorship by Judicial Branch
• Experience working in law enforcement or security for court environments is preferred
• Ability to interact professionally with judges, staff, attorneys, and the public

Responsibilities

• Serve as Judicial Marshal for court sessions and security planning.
• Maintain alert posture and respond to security risks during proceedings.
• Enforce Maine laws within courthouse and conduct arrests when necessary.
• Monitor entry screening areas and operate surveillance equipment.
• Assist with courtroom paperwork flow between judges, clerks, defendants, and participants.
• Manage movement of evidence and maintain courthouse safety.
• Patrol public areas to ensure visible security presence.
• Announce openings, recesses, and closings of court sessions.
• Direct people to locations and provide information on schedules.
• Ensure all parties are ready for the presiding judge's entry.
• Maintain annual law enforcement training per Maine Academy standards.
• Respond to emergencies and ensure courthouse safety.
