Qualifications

• Must have completed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training program.
• Applicants sponsored by the Judicial Branch may be considered if viable pending interview results.
• Ability to interact effectively with judges, court staff, attorneys, and the public in varied situations.
• Eligible for certification as a Judicial Marshal through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or complete training within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Judicial Marshal for the court, arranging security for each court day and session as needed.
• Remains stationed during court proceedings, alert and responsive to security risks.
• Enforces Maine laws within the courthouse, makes arrests when necessary, monitors surveillance, and uses entry screening equipment.
• Observes entrants and their activities to ensure safety and security.
• Assists with workflow of paperwork between judge, clerk, defendants, and other participants.
• Assists with movement of evidence as requested.
• Patrols public areas of court facilities and maintains a visible presence.
• Announces opening, recess, and closing of court sessions.
• Directs individuals to locations and provides information on schedules and proceedings.
