Job summary

State of Maine Judicial Branch seeks certified law enforcement officers and others with Phase 1 pre-service training to become Deputy Judicial Marshals. The role provides a safe and secure experience for judges, staff, court participants, and the public with a full-time schedule and work-life balance.

Starting pay ranges from $25.72 to $27.03 per hour; Grade 12, up to $34.88 per hour, plus a geographical cost of living stipend.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training is required or sponsorable case-by-case.
• Ability to interact effectively with judges/justices, court staff, attorneys, and the public.
• Eligible for certification as a Judicial Marshal or complete Basic Maine Judicial Marshals Training within one year.
• Ability to pass a polygraph examination and national fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Judicial Marshal for the court, providing security as needed.
• Enforce Maine laws within the courthouse and monitor surveillance equipment.
• Direct movement of people and paperwork; assist with courtroom flow and evidence handling.
• Patrol courthouse areas and maintain a visible security presence.
• Maintain required law enforcement training and respond to emergencies.
