Job summary

City of Rock Island, IL is seeking an IS Specialist I to support and secure the City’s IT infrastructure. You will assist staff with computing needs, manage accounts, and help maintain cloud and on‑prem systems under supervision of the IT Director.

The role emphasizes end‑user support, system monitoring, and adherence to security best practices. Occasional after‑hours work may be required to address critical issues or planned maintenance.

Qualifications

• Requires high school graduation (or GED) with an Associate’s degree or equivalent IT coursework.
• Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems (Windows 10/11) and standard productivity suites.
• Experience with IT help desk/ticketing systems and remote support tools.
• Foundational cybersecurity concepts and data backup/disaster recovery awareness.

Responsibilities

• Provide end-user and system support at the IT help desk, on-site and remotely.
• Administer on-prem and cloud platforms, including Google Workspace and Active Directory.
• Assist with hardware and software deployment and imaging for new devices.
• Support security initiatives, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning, and user training on cybersecurity.
