Job Duties

This position provides multidisciplinary information technology (IT) services to support complex IT functionality according to various program's academic goals and objectives. This position emphasizes supporting users of computer and audio-visual equipment at the UWSP-Marshfield campus. Duties include troubleshooting equipment when it malfunctions, upgrading and installing new equipment and training users on how to operate hardware and software. Primary objectives are keeping classroom equipment operational so there are minimal interruptions to instruction. Secondary objectives providing classroom support services (e.g., proctoring exams/quizzes) and providing IT support to faculty and staff at the UWSP-Marshfield campus.

The position will require occasional flexible hours that may include limited evenings, weekends, and/or on-call hours. Limited travel between UWSP campuses and alternative sites may occasionally be required. The ability to work independently while providing excellent customer services in a fast-paced academic environment is a requirement.

Department

The Department of Information Technology (IT) serves the students, faculty, staff, and researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP). The IT staff are stationed at UWSP’s three main campuses (Stevens Point, Wausau, and Marshfield), and provide services to all other UWSP sites and properties. Our department oversees the University’s server and network infrastructures, phone systems, computing hardware, software, audiovisual services, and user-support services. Our goal is to provide excellent services and resources to help students, faculty, and staff achieve their goals through intelligent and secure use of campus technologies from wherever they study or work.

Compensation

The IT Professional III position is a full-time position, salaried, exempt, annual (12-month), academic staff position. Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $60,031.08. Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a computer-related field or 5 years of full-time employment in a computer support position.
  • 2-4 years of experience supporting MS Windows computers, including hardware installation, software installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with common audiovisual technologies such as TVs, projectors, and audio systems.
  • Experience supporting android and iOS mobile devices.
  • Excellent customer support skills including excellent written and oral communications.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a computer, technology-related, or technical field.
  • 4-6 years of experience supporting MS Windows computers, including hardware installation, software installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting MacOS and Linux computers.
  • Experience working in Higher Education and/or Enterprise sized organization.
  • Professional experience supporting audio-visual equipment including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of GIS applications or experience support GIS applications.
  • Experience automating business processes with scripting languages like PowerShell.
  • Experience supporting Distance Education/HyFlex Classrooms.
