Job description

The Durango Public Library is a hub for learning, connection, resources, and new ideas. As the IT Help Desk Technician based in the library, you’ll be a primary technology resource for both library staff and community members, supporting public computers, staff devices, meeting room technology, and library systems. In this role, you’ll connect technical systems with everyday user needs. Whether you’re setting up equipment, troubleshooting software, maintaining security cameras, or helping someone access digital library resources on their personal device, your work will support access to information and technology throughout our community.

The starting pay for this position is $49,913 per year, with opportunities for growth up to $69,878 per year based on long-term growth and performance within the role.

City of Durango’s Trail to Excellence

The City of Durango is a purpose-driven organization with more than 400 full-time and 300 part-time and seasonal employees across 15 departments, all working together to provide a wide range of services that keep our community running every day. From public safety and utilities to parks and recreation, our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality services that enhance the lives of all who live, work, and visit here.

At the city, we focus on continually improving how we work and serve the community. This effort is called the Trail to Excellence (T2E), and every employee plays a part in it. Whether you work outdoors, in an office, or lead a team, your daily efforts connect to the city’s mission of providing excellent service and reaching the city’s vision of being a multigenerational community that is authentic, diverse, engaged, thriving, and environmentally responsible. The full details of this vision are outlined in the city’s strategic plan.

  • Your ideas help shape citywide improvements.
  • The work you do ties directly into measurable goals.
  • You’ll be part of a system that values collaboration, innovation, and results.

We’re looking for team members who share our core values of teamwork, dependability, professionalism, service, respect, innovation, and wellbeing — and who are excited to make a difference in the community we serve.

What You’ll Do in This Role:
  • Provide in-person and remote technology support to library staff and community members.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade computers, laptops, tablets, printers, software, and other equipment.
  • Manage support requests and maintain records of technology repairs, updates, inventory, and system changes.
  • Support library technology, including public computers, meeting room equipment, self-check stations, automated return system, security cameras, and the integrated library system.
  • Help community members use computers, mobile devices, email, internet resources, library databases, digital materials, mobile printing, and other technology.
  • Maintain public computer software, security tools, system images, and updates.
  • Coordinate technology needs with the City’s Information Technology (IT) team, working together on technology needs, system support, and related projects.
  • Train library staff and community members on technology, software, and digital tools, including technology orientation for new employees.
  • Research technology needs, recommend improvements, and maintain technical instructions and system information.
  • Maintain library webpages, online catalog pages, and the Durango Public Library mobile app.
  • Assist with meeting room technology and occasional circulation, reference, and other library operations.
You Have:
  • An associate degree or equivalent training from an accredited vocational school, college, or university with coursework in computer science, information systems, electronics, telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience supporting desktop, laptop, and tablet systems.
  • A CompTIA A+ certification is preferred.
  • Experience with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or other remote desktop support tools is preferred.
You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills to identify hardware or software issues and find logical solutions.
  • Work well in a team setting and build positive relationships with coworkers and community members.
