The Information Technology Department at Denver Public Library consists of two teams: Product, which manages applications and digital services driving the execution of a technology roadmap to enhance the library experience, and Infrastructure, which maintains the systems, network, and support to keep all 28 branches running smoothly.
DPL is hiring an IT Manager who will serve as the primary technical subject matter expert and operational leader for our Infrastructure division, driving the stability, security, and growth of our core technology. In this role, you will oversee and design essential systems—including servers, virtualization, networking, cyber security, endpoint management, identity and access management. Operating as the team’s technical escalation point, you will take ownership of design, maintenance, standards, and strategy across all 28 library locations to ensure seamless, reliable service for our staff and community. Beyond managing infrastructure, you will lead and empower high-performing teams. You will design roadmaps, set priorities, and review technical quality of work to strategically align IT technology with our mission. As a manager, you will own the end-to-end talent lifecycle by conducting interviews, setting goals, evaluating performance, managing grievances or disciplinary actions, and actively cultivating team growth through mentoring, cross-training, and professional development planning. Additionally, you will represent the division in vendor negotiations, contribute key input on budgeting and contract management.
Our ideal candidate has the following experience, skills, and characteristics: Ability to act as the division's technical subject matter expert and escalation point for virtualization architecture, networking, cybersecurity, identity and access management, and endpoint management. Designs core infrastructure in a hybrid environment including data strategy and disaster recovery (Windows, SQL, Linux). Ability to oversee network design and maintenance across 28 locations. Ability to oversee hybrid identity: Active Directory, Entra ID, MFA, Google Workspace, SSO. Ability to develop goals, document performance, and formally evaluate staff. Ability to transfer expertise through mentoring, cross-training, documentation, and professional development planning. Ability to maintain standards, runbooks, and recovery procedures. Ability to represent the division with vendors; provides budget and contract input.
