Position Description Summary/Purpose

The University of Bridgeport is seeking a dynamic, customer service-oriented Desktop Support Specialist based on its Bridgeport, CT campus. Reporting to the Campus & User Technology Services Manager, this role supports faculty, staff, and students using PCs, mobile devices, and telephone systems, ensuring prompt and professional incident resolution following established protocols.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide expert support to users experiencing technology issues.
  • Offer technical, operational, and training support remotely, via phone, or on-site for hardware and software.
  • Identify, research, and resolve technical problems; perform hardware diagnostics and coordinate repairs.
  • Maintain IT asset inventory and lifecycle management.
  • Support, monitor, troubleshoot hardware/software issues, and perform backups as needed.
  • Document incidents in the management system (Dynamics 365).
  • Create documentation for team use and user training.
  • Educate users on technology best practices through educational sessions.
  • Occasional travel to other campuses and after-hours support may be required.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and pull a cart.
  • Image and deploy computers for new hires and upgrades.
  • Adhere to safety practices in all work activities.
Other Functions

  • Perform related work as needed.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with trends.
  • Assist other departments to foster team collaboration.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Ability, and Skills:

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficiency with Windows 10/11, Mac OS 14, Active Directory, Office 365, Teams, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Intune.
  • Understanding of basic networking, hardware, and peripheral configuration.
  • Effective communication skills for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability onsite Monday – Friday 8:30 AM to 5 PM, with some weekends.
  • High energy and adaptability in a changing environment.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • At least 2 years of troubleshooting experience with Windows PCs/laptops; Mac experience is a plus but not required.
Physical and Mental Requirements

Work Environment and Physical Activities are typical for this role, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, and using hands for handling equipment. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Some travel and after-hours work may be necessary.
