Job summary

Barnes & Thornburg LLP is seeking an IP Docket Specialist in Raleigh to manage docketing for domestic and foreign patent matters. Under supervision, you will handle incoming correspondence, maintain the CPi database, generate reports, and ensure timely action on deadlines across USPTO and foreign filings.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of IP docketing experience, strong CPi knowledge, and familiarity with patent prosecution terminology and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years IP docketing experience.
• Advanced understanding of the patent prosecution process and deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient computer and database skills including Word, Excel, iManage and CPI.

Responsibilities

• Monitor docketing inbox and docket patent prosecution notices from foreign agents and USPTO.
• Maintain CPi database for IP Department files including client and inventor data.
• Download daily mail from PAIR.
• Compile reports for attorneys and assistants as needed.
• Follow up with attorneys and staff on rights-related dates.
• Clear docketed dates promptly as tasks are completed.
• Add new matters to docket system as opened.
• Review and docket newly filed applications.
• Maintain data integrity of CPi database.
• Assist with training and second-eye review of IP Docket Clerks’ work.
• Perform other related duties as required.
