Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Workplace Investigator to lead end-to-end investigations into misconduct and policy violations, focusing on fact-based conclusions and thorough reporting.

You will plan, interview, analyze findings, and draft reports for HR, Legal, and leadership while maintaining strict confidentiality and collaborating across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR/Business/IO Psychology/Criminal Justice or 5+ years equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years professional HR or investigations experience; 3+ years in workplace investigations.
  • Experience managing investigations from assignment to report completion.
  • Ability to identify sources of information; conduct interviews; maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of internal controls and process improvements; strong communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end investigations from planning to closure.
  • Plan investigation scope, participants, and timelines.
  • Conduct fact-finding and analysis; draft final reports.
  • Communicate results to HR, leadership, Legal, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with HR, Labor Relations, Legal, Audit, Security, and Operations.
  • Draft clear, concise investigation reports and summaries.
  • Manage case documentation, evidence handling, and retention.

Job description

  • Conduct impartial, fact-based investigations of suspected misconduct and policy violations, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, bullying, and Winning with Integrity policy violations
  • Own the end-to-end investigation process from planning through closure, including fact-finding, analysis, and report writing
  • Develop investigation plans covering scope, participants, and timelines
  • Execute and document investigations according to professional standards and GM protocols
  • Communicate investigation results clearly and promptly to HR, leaders, Legal, and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with HR, Labor Relations, Legal, Audit, Security, Operations, and other functions
  • Partner with HR Policy on post-investigation strategies, employment-action equity, and proactive training efforts
  • Draft concise, high-quality reports synthesizing facts, policy standards, analysis, and case conclusions
  • Manage case documentation, evidence handling and storage, record retention, and investigation quality standards
  • Investigate alleged misconduct at Leadership’s direction while balancing urgency and quality
  • Maintain timely communication with personnel involved in investigations and projects
  • Evaluate internal controls and related procedures for people, policy, and culture improvements
  • Recommend changes to improve investigative efficiency and effectiveness
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, AWI) is a plus
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Human Resources, Corporate Global Investigations, Labor Relations, Legal, or Compliance
  • Minimum of 3 years conducting workplace investigations into discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other policy violations
  • Experience managing investigations from assignment through fact-finding, analysis, and report completion
  • Ability to identify and develop sources of information relevant to investigations
  • Ability to conduct effective informational and interrogatory interviews with reporters, subjects, and witnesses
  • Ability to evaluate internal controls and procedures to identify gaps or process improvements
  • Ability to recommend investigative process improvements
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Managerial courage and effective, direct, respectful communication
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships across a matrixed organization
  • Ability to investigate objectively
  • Critical-thinking ability and aptitude for presenting a recommended course of action succinctly
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple complex investigations concurrently
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience drafting clear, concise investigation reports and summaries
  • Ability to handle high‑risk, sensitive matters with discretion, judgment, and composure
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry and experience with represented/hourly workforces are a plus
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
