Job summary

Vaco by Highspring seeks an Interim Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller to oversee accounting operations for a hospitality and recreation client during a transitional period.

The role is primarily on-site in the San Francisco Peninsula, anticipated to last 2–3 months with possible extension or conversion. Responsibilities include close, reporting, controls, and mentoring the accounting team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience at leadership level (Manager/Controller).
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience with fixed assets, capital projects, construction-in-progress accounting, and capitalization assessments.
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills; able to lead teams in a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, cash management and high-volume processing.
• Lead monthly close and prepare financial reports, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
• Manage accruals and ensure proper accounting for operating expenses and capex.
• Oversee fixed assets, depreciation, construction-in-progress schedules, and capital projects accounting.
• Coordinate annual audit, tax, and compliance activities with external providers.
• Prepare forecasts and analyze budgets, trends, and performance to support leadership decisions.
• Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, automation, and reporting workflows.
• Mentor accounting team members and partner with operational leaders on accounting matters.
