Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking part-time BASE instructors to guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM and hands-on learning at a Y Before and After-School Enrichment program, designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside the classroom. You will help teach teamwork and social-emotional skills while encouraging skill building, creativity, physical activity and fun.

BASE instructors will start 8/24 at various locations.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older, 18 or older is preferred.
• 1-2 years’ experience with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
• Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• Pre-employment TB tests and MMR vaccination; Concentra options available at no cost.
• High school diploma or equivalent, or currently enrolled in high school or equivalent program.
• Completion of minimum STARS required training, CPR/First Aid Training*
• Cleared Portable Background Check in the MERIT system.
• At hire, or earliest possible training (no later than 30 days).
• Onboarding-completion within required timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure health and safety and a positive experience.
• May guide staff/volunteers overseeing activities of groups of children.
• Communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including medical, disciplinary, abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Maintains site appearance, décor and cleanliness.
• May prepare and serve snacks and keep snack area clean.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

STARS training, CPR/First Aid
