Job summary

Seattle YMCA is seeking a part-time, on-site BASE program instructor to guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and hands-on learning activities. You will support the program supervisor, promote teamwork and social-emotional learning, and foster skill-building, creativity, physical activity, and fun. Lead instructors may assist the Play Everyday Program 2–4 days per week around midday.

BASE starts 8/17. Applicants must be 18+, have CPR/First Aid, and pass background checks.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• 2 or more years’ experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, and nannying.
• Ability to model and demonstrate YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• Completion of minimum STARS training.
• Certification in CPR/First aid.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience for each child.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
• Communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary procedures, abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Maintains site appearance, décor and cleanliness.
