Job summary

YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking part-time on-site instructors for the BASE program to guide elementary students in sports, arts, STEM, and hands-on learning.

You will support the program supervisor, foster teamwork and social-emotional learning, and encourage skill-building, creativity, physical activity, and fun. Base roles run with after-school and middle-day Play Everyday sessions, starting 8/17 at multiple elementary sites.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• 2 or more years’ experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, and nannying.
• Ability to model and demonstrate YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• Have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and have a GED or high school diploma.
• Completion of minimum STARS required training
• Certification in CPR/First aid
• TB tests and MMR vaccination required pre-employment
• Food worker card.
• Cleared Portable Background Check in MERIT
• At hire, or earliest possible training.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YMCA.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure health and safety and provide a positive experience for each child.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
• Communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including medical, disciplinary, and safety protocols.
• Maintains site appearance, décor and cleanliness.
• May prepare and serve snacks; cleans snack area.
• Assists at check-in or check-out for parents.
• Assumes responsibility for program operation when DCYF designated staff is not on premises.
• Provides onsite support for Play Everyday Program at the school.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; other duties as assigned.
