Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I for inpatient care at the Memorial Campus in Worcester, MA. This full-time, 40-hour position involves day shift responsibilities in a high-demand hospital setting.

Under licensed clinician direction, you will assist with patient care, monitor vitals, support daily living activities, and help ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Excellent communication and calmness under pressure are essential.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Basic computer skills and medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN about patient observations and changes.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Contribute to a safe environment and assist in de-escalation or restraint as trained.
• Assist patients with daily living activities: hygiene, ambulation, meals and nourishment.
• Help move, lift, position, and transport patients using proper safety techniques.
• Perform vital signs, monitor weights/heights, and document readings.
• Assist with EKGs, POC tests, bladder scanning and specimen transport.
• Support RN/LCN with treatments and procedures, prepare equipment, and provide emotional support.
• Observe and record intake/output, manage tube feeding and ostomy care as directed.
• Communicate respectfully with patients, families, and staff; maintain rapport.
