Job summary

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW) is seeking an MHT Supervisor to join the Nursing Administration team. Lead Mental Health Technicians, ensure a safe and therapeutic inpatient environment, and support patient-centered care and staff development.

You will mentor direct care staff, coordinate patient care with nursing leadership, and participate in admissions, observations, and group activities. A strong background in inpatient psychiatry and crisis management is essential.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: Minimum of two years of inpatient psychiatric experience.
• CPR/BLS Certification through AHA.
• Knowledge of psychiatric conditions (PTSD, dissociative disorders).
• Understanding of age-appropriate patient needs and therapeutic approaches.
• Familiarity with nursing care plans and patient admission procedures.
• Experience with grounding techniques and containment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily supervision and mentorship to Mental Health Technicians and support staff.
• Oversee therapeutic milieu, schedules, activities, and unit procedures.
• Coordinate with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary team to support patient care and treatment goals.
• Respond to behavioral emergencies and implement de-escalation and safety interventions.
• Model trauma-informed approaches and crisis intervention techniques.
• Assist with patient admissions, orientation, observations, documentation, and clinical activities as delegated by RN.
• Support staff onboarding, training, and development of therapeutic group activities.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies and infection prevention practices.
