Job summary

Luminis Health is seeking an Inpatient Medical Coder to code hospital inpatient accounts under the supervision of the Manager of Coding and Data Quality. You will ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for appropriate reimbursement, research, statistics, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements include CCS/CIC/CPC/RHIT/RHIA credentials (CCS preferred), 1 year inpatient acute care experience, and strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding and MS-DRG/APR-DRG methods.

Qualifications

• High School graduate; formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training required.
• One year inpatient acute care coding or two years outpatient coding experience required.
• Experience with ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG/APR-DRG methodologies, inpatient reimbursement and coding guidelines preferred.
• Certification: CCS/CIC/CPC/RHIT/RHIA; CCS preferred at hire and within one year.

Responsibilities

• Analyze inpatient cases and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for reimbursement and compliance.
• Query providers on documentation issues and coordinate with CDIS as needed.
• Monitor daily workflow to meet billing timeframes and code records.
• Maintain high accuracy to prevent denials and support DRG/APR-DRG accuracy.
• Review medical records to extract information for code assignments.
• Communicate with hospital departments on billing and registration issues.
• Adhere to HIPAA and use EHR and coding references; participate in ongoing education.
