Job summary

Luminis Health, Inc. is seeking an Inpatient Medical Coder to code hospital inpatient accounts under supervision. The role supports accurate reimbursement, research, statistics and regulatory compliance per ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines.

Responsibilities include reviewing records, querying documentation when needed, meeting timely deadlines, and maintaining high accuracy to prevent denials. Requires CCS/CIC/CPC/RHIT/RHIA credentials or obtaining within one year.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent. Formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year of inpatient acute care coding experience or two (2) years of acute care outpatient coding experience required. Experience with ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG/APR-DRG methodologies, inpatient reimbursement, and coding guidelines is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes inpatient cases and assigns ICD-10 diagnostic and PCS procedural codes for reimbursement, research and compliance.
• Queries providers and consults with clinical staff to resolve documentation issues.
• Monitor daily work to meet timeframes in work queues and code/abstract records accordingly.
• Maintain high accuracy to prevent denials and errors; respond to feedback on metrics.
• Review medical records to extract information for code assignments.
• Communicate with hospital departments regarding billing and registration issues.
• Comply with AHIMA ethics and HIPAA privacy regulations.
• Use EHRs and coding references to ensure accurate code assignments.
• Participate in ongoing education and DRG mismatch reviews with CDIS.
