Job summary

Mercy is seeking an Inpatient Coding Specialist to review medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes for inpatient, outpatient, and professional services. You will follow AHIMA standards and official coding guidelines to ensure compliant coding across care settings.

Preferred qualifications include RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC or CIRCC, with 6 months to complete certifications after employment. The role supports Mercy’s commitment to quality, accuracy, and ethical coding practices.

Qualifications

• Requires RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC or CIRCC certifications to be completed within 6 months of employment.
• Education: High school diploma; preferred A.S./B.S. in HIT/HIM.
• Experience with ICD-10-CM/HCPCS-CPT coding in acute care settings.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze documentation in medical records to assign accurate diagnoses/procedure codes.
• Ensure compliance with Standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines.
• Work with inpatient, outpatient and/or professional services coding as needed.
