Job summary

Cedars-Sinai is seeking a Hospital Inpatient Coder to assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes by reviewing documentation in line with coding guidelines. The role identifies principal diagnoses, comorbidities, and presents coding sequences to accurately reflect DRG outcomes.

Qualified candidates will have 3+ years in healthcare coding and maintain up-to-date knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG systems, along with CDI collaboration to ensure comprehensive coding profiles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years’ work experience in healthcare coding.
• Certification required upon hire: RHIT/RHIA/CPC/CCS/CCS-P.

Responsibilities

• Review medical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes within productivity/quality standards.
• Abstract data elements for reporting and statistical capture in the EHR systems.
• Maintain knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG classifications for patient stays.
• Resolve complex inpatient edits/alerts using current guidelines.
• Collaborate with CDI team to ensure complete coding profiles.
• Translate records into standardized codes for hospital reporting.
• Identify opportunities for documentation improvement and seek physician clarification.
