Job summary

Cedars Sinai is seeking an experienced Hospital Inpatient Coder to assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes by reviewing documentation under standard guidelines. The role covers principal diagnosis selection, DRG determination, and MS-DRG/APR-DRG knowledge within Cedars Sinai Health System and its affiliates.

Responsibilities include abstracting data for reporting, coding in Epic and other systems, and collaborating with the CDI team to ensure complete coding profiles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• A minimum of 3 years’ work experience doing code assignment in a healthcare setting.
• Registered Health Info Tech, Registered Health Info Admin, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, or Certified Coding Specialist required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical documentation and assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS codes within productivity and quality standards.
• Abstracts data for reporting into systems like EPIC, Solventum, and Select Coder.
• Applies knowledge of coding guidelines and SDOH/PSI considerations.
• Resolves inpatient edits/alerts with accuracy under guidelines.
• Communicates with CDI team to align coding approaches.
• Translates records into standardized codes for Cedars Sinai Health System.
• Identifies opportunities for documentation improvement with physicians.
