Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder responsible for assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes to inpatient encounters based on documentation in the EMR, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

The role requires knowledge of DRG/APC systems, AHIMA guidelines, and strong communication with physicians and care teams. A CAHIIM-accredited program degree and relevant certification are required.

Qualifications

• One year of inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program or Outpatient to Inpatient Coder Transition Program
• Must hold RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification

Responsabilités

• Maintains and achieves the highest standards of coding quality by assigning accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes using encoder/EHR systems
• Queries physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses and procedures via the physician query process
• Ensures coding compliance with AHIMA standards and regulatory guidelines
• Interacts with care teams in EPIC/EHR to determine principal/secondary diagnoses and procedures
