Job description

Definition of Class
  • This position reports to the onsite IT Manager and the Director of Information Technology. Day to day operations require moderate independent action, initiative and judgment. Most duties are performed independently and involve a wide range of mechanical expertise, technical skills and abilities. General direction and guidance are received from the onsite IT Manger and Department of Public Safety. The IT Specialist II is subject to being on call 24/7/365 and in case of emergencies.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs desktop and end user support for Public Safety and various County IT department as assigned. Performs end-user support to all Fire, law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Services in Erie County as assigned
  • Work includes but is not limited to
  • Support of desktop and client side peripherals.
  • Troubleshoot and support multiple Public Safety network systems and infrastructure. Troubleshoot and support network connectivity and infrastructure including cabling. End user support including hardware and application assistance.
  • Work with vendors to provide onsite and remote support. Installing, upgrading and maintaining PC's and related hardware.
  • Accurately document instances of software or hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal, and other work requests while utilizing a trouble ticket system.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of monthly IT backups.
  • Assist in end user training in regards to departmental hardware, software, applications and security. Maintain inventory and refresh cycle of IT equipment.
  • Assist System Administrator with server, network, and group policy support. Serve as backup System Administrator as needed
  • Support County IT Projects and initiatives as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Maintenance and Operation of Data Processing Equipment Knowledge of the use of various Network and Computer Diagnostic Equipment Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Knowledge of VMWare, SANS and NAS
  • Experience with Networking, Servers, and Workstations in a Windows Environment Experience Designing, Installing, and Troubleshooting Cabling and Wiring Systems Knowledge of Security and Anti-Virus Applications
  • Ability to Operate Tools, Components, and Testing Accessories
  • Ability to Conduct Research into Emerging Technologies
  • Ability to Solve Complex Problems Excellent Interpersonal Skills Excellent Verbal and Writing skills

Supervision Received
  • Work is performed under the direction of the County Information Technology Director or onsite IT Manager.
