Job summary

The Y! in Connecticut seeks a dedicated lead teacher for Infants and Toddlers (6 weeks–2 years) with a 40-hour work week and strong benefits, including a YMCA membership. The role emphasizes developmentally appropriate curricula and active parental engagement in a supportive environment.

The position requires a qualifying Early Childhood Education credential or equivalent experience, ability to coordinate curriculum, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to serve children and families.

Qualifications

  • Current minimum qualification is one of the following:
  • An associate, baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education;
  • An associate degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education with at least 1080 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching infant, toddler and preschool-age children;
  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with at least 500 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching preschool-age children; or
  • A baccalaureate degree in any field and has been admitted into Teach For America, passed a rigorous early childhood content exam (Praxis II) and related training;
  • Coursework equivalent to a major related to Early Childhood Education includes licensure or certification by the state for Pre-K teachers;
  • Coursework No less than 30 credits for associates or 60 credits for bachelors in related fields;
  • It is up to each employee to provide documentation to demonstrate course relevance to early childhood development.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Lead by example; support teaching team through modeling and coaching.
  • Plan age-appropriate activities to engage children and support social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through discussions, progress reports, and conferences.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Maintain a healthy classroom environment with hygiene, safety and security.
  • Supervise teacher assistants and volunteers to ensure adherence to activities and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Pursue personal professional development to drive quality improvement.
